Lewis Hamilton will start from the pit lane — but his SF-25 is radically different from yesterday.
Lewis Hamilton will start the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix from the pit lane, following a tough qualifying session that saw him finish 16th. But that’s not the only change for the seven-time World Champion — his Ferrari SF-25 has undergone a significant technical overhaul ahead of the race. Alongside the installation of a brand-new power unit, Ferrari has also opted to fit a new rear wing to Hamilton’s car.
The new aerodynamic component wasn’t fitted due to a technical issue, but rather as part of a setup adjustment tailored to today’s expected wet and unstable weather conditions. The new rear wing offers higher downforce, aimed at improving stability and traction on Spa’s notoriously tricky and weather-sensitive layout.
Technical Analysis – What’s new on Hamilton and Leclerc’s wings?
As visible in recent photos, Ferrari had been running a rear wing with a slight deformation between the two HP logos throughout the weekend. The new wing now being fitted to Hamilton’s car not only eliminates that deformation but also features a more aggressive “spoon” profile and increased aerodynamic load.
With a brand-new power unit and a high-downforce setup, Hamilton will start from the very back — but in a car better suited for wet weather and recovery drives. It’s a calculated risk from Ferrari, hoping to climb back up the order in what promises to be an unpredictable race.
