Leonardo Fornaroli doesn’t seem to have a seat lined up in Formula 1 for 2026. And yet, the driver from Piacenza is currently the brightest talent in Formula 2…
The Italian phenomenon Leonardo Fornaroli continues to impress in Formula 2, but his name is still absent from the list of potential Formula 1 drivers for 2026.
James Robinson, CEO of Invicta Racing, voiced his disbelief in an interview with Motorsport.com, highlighting what he sees as a major oversight.
James Robinson’s words
“Leo’s unique ability is to execute flawlessly and without mistakes. In the Spa Sprint we had Martins setting really quick laps. Everyone on the pit wall thought it would be a tough race to win, but Leo just kept pushing, lap after lap.”
“At the end of the race he had built a 4–5 second gap and won comfortably. He did the same in the Feature Race in Hungary. I’m astonished at this point and I can’t understand why Leo isn’t already in a Formula 1 team.” .
According to Robinson, Fornaroli represents not only raw speed but also the kind of consistency that makes him invaluable for car development:“Most of the other drivers in the top seven or eight of the championship are already part of academies. If you want to develop a car, you need a driver who delivers lap after lap consistency and stable data. Leo does this better than anyone in Formula 2 right now. At this point, signing him would be the deal of the century for an F1 team.” .
Strong words that shine a spotlight on the young Italian’s future. The inevitable question now is: which team will have the courage to bet on Fornaroli before it’s too late?
