The Balaton Park allows the youngest riders in the championship to shine: Quiles makes the difference, but watch out for Perrone and Pini as well.
The lightweight class of the world championship returns to the track for the second and final session of Friday: in just 35 minutes, the fate of tomorrow’s qualifying is decided. Let’s take a look at the 14 riders who go directly through to Q2 — a solid advantage, considering that everyone at Balaton is racing on equal footing.
Fastest of all is Maximo Quiles, who shows a very competitive pace. Behind him are fellow rookies Valentin Perrone (2nd) and Guido Pini (3rd), who take advantage of the rest of the grid’s lack of experience to shine.
Piqueras (4th) confirms his strong form, while Rueda (5th) seems to be finding his rhythm — both could be back in the fight this weekend.
Among the Italians in Q2 are also Foggia (8th), Carraro (12th), and Rossi (14th). Meanwhile, Nepa’s struggles continue as he finishes 25th, ahead of only Leonardo Abruzzo.
Surprisingly, Furusato (15th) and Kelso (18th) fail to qualify directly: both will have to rebuild their weekend from scratch, with the MTA team rider particularly unlucky today due to crashes.
