All eyes were on Charles Leclerc after a red flag incident: here’s what happened (and why Bearman was penalized in the past).
With 25 minutes left in FP1 at the Italian Grand Prix, the session was stopped: Isack Hadjar, coming out of Ascari, had dragged gravel onto the track.
This raised concern for Charles Leclerc: the Monegasque was on a flying lap and, entering the Roggia chicane, couldn’t avoid passing Nico Hülkenberg even though the red flag had already been shown.
The FIA immediately took note of the case: Hülkenberg was driving slowly, while Leclerc was flat-out.
Charles Leclerc’s Words
Here’s the Ferrari driver’s radio message:
“It was a bit of a tricky situation. I braked as hard as I could when I saw the red flag but I couldn’t avoid passing the Sauber…”
Bearman’s precedent and the decision
Per lo stesso episodio, identico, Bearman prese addirittura dieci posizioni di penalità al Gran Premio di Monaco: ciò ha quindi portato qualche ferrarista a temere una penalità.
Fortunately for the Monegasque, the FIA decided not to investigate the matter further, meaning Leclerc will not receive a penalty.
