Ben Sulayem, Mayer, and Villars: the battle for the Federation’s future will take place this December in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
There will be three candidates running for the FIA presidency in the elections scheduled for December 2025 in Tashkent. With the late entry of Laura Villars – an unexpected name, but a highly welcomed one given it marks a historic first – the race gains even greater significance.
The three FIA presidential candidates
Here’s the three FIA presidential candidates:
- Mohammed Ben Sulayem (63) – Emirati entrepreneur, motorsport executive, and former rally driver. He is the current FIA president and is seeking a new mandate.
- Tim Mayer (59) – American, former Formula 1 steward and motorsport event organizer, bringing extensive experience in governance and sporting management.
- Laura Villars (28) – Swiss entrepreneur and racing driver. She is the first woman in FIA history to run for president, with a program centered on transparency, inclusion, and renewal.
The electoral showdown is shaping up to be historic: on one side, the established experience of Ben Sulayem and Mayer; on the other, the fresh vision of the young Villars, determined to turn the FIA into a more democratic federation open to future generations.
