Antonio Fuoco will replace Lewis Hamilton at the wheel of the Ferrari during FP1 at the Mexican Grand Prix, as part of the team’s “rookie” program.
Antonio Fuoco will drive Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari SF-25 during the first free practice session at next weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix. According to regulations, each team must allocate four FP1 sessions per season to allow a “rookie” driver — that is, one with no more than two Grand Prix starts — to take part.

After Formula 2 driver Dino Beganovic filled in for Charles Leclerc in Bahrain and Austria, it’s Antonio Fuoco’s turn at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The Ferrari WEC driver, who won the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans with the team, will take Lewis Hamilton’s seat, as each team is required to field a “rookie” in two FP1 sessions per car.
This reunites the Leclerc-Fuoco pairing, teammates in Formula 2 with Prema in 2017 and already together in FP1 at Abu Dhabi 2024. The Italian driver will undoubtedly bring a wealth of experience to the team, being recognized in the paddock as one of the top endurance drivers in the world.
