Oscar Piastri will race in Las Vegas with a special pink and blue helmet inspired by a remote control car: the story behind it is touching.
Oscar Piastri has unveiled his special helmet for the Las Vegas GP, shifting from his traditional yellow-orange-blue scheme to a vibrant pink and light blue combination. In the presentation video and subsequent photos, the helmet is accompanied by a remote control car with an identical livery. The reason for this choice? It is as curious as it is touching.
The car in question is, in fact, the one with which Piastri won his first national championship. Next weekend, precisely, will mark exactly 15 years since the young Oscar, who was 9 years old at the time, achieved that milestone. For him, remote control cars represented the beginning of his career, when his father brought one home from a business trip when Oscar was 6, and he started racing it in the backyard.

After winning the championship, even beating adult men, an opponent advised him to try karting: in less than a week, Piastri was behind the wheel of one. Thus began the journey that today sees him fighting for the Formula 1 World Championship alongside his teammate, Lando Norris.
“Alright guys, this is the presentation of my helmet for the Las Vegas Grand Prix,” Piastri explains in an Instagram video, showing his remote control car. “Don’t worry, I won’t be wearing this on my head, but the helmet I will be wearing is a tribute to her. The remote control car was the car and the bodywork I used to win the National Championship in 2010. And why Las Vegas for this occasion? This weekend marks 15 years since that moment. So, very special memories for me, in some ways my first success. I hope you like it, it’s something quite different, but very cool.”
