The Barcelona Grand Prix looks set to remain on the calendar: here’s how it is expected to be run.

The Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona looks set to remain on the Formula 1 calendar. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is close to extending its contract until 2032, through a solution that reflects what is likely to be the future of the World Championship: circuit rotation, in this case with Spa-Francorchamps.

According to La Vanguardia, negotiations are now at an advanced stage, while Marca reports that the official signing could already arrive in January. A confirmation that would follow up on what had been anticipated in recent months and would reshape the balance of European Grands Prix in the coming years.

Rotation with Spa: the plan until 2032

The most significant development concerns the structure of the deal. Barcelona would not disappear from the calendar, but would alternate with Spa-Francorchamps, another iconic Formula 1 venue.

According to current rumors, the rotation plan would be:

  • 2027 – Spa-Francorchamps
  • 2028 – Barcellona
  • 2029 – Spa-Francorchamps
  • 2030 – Barcellona
  • 2031 – Spa-Francorchamps
  • 2032 – Barcellona

A solution that allows Formula 1 to preserve two historic circuits, while easing the pressure of an increasingly crowded calendar.

2028: a possible record for the Iberian Peninsula

The 2028 season could be unprecedented, featuring three Grands Prix on the Iberian Peninsula. Alongside Barcelona, the calendar would also include the Spanish GP in Madrid and the Portuguese GP at Portimão, confirmed just yesterday.

A scenario that highlights the growing importance of the Iberian market for Liberty Media, both in terms of audience engagement and economic and tourism returns.
