Red Bull’s “Secret Livery”: The Unused Austin Design Surfaces on Social Media

During the United States Grand Prix, Red Bull had planned to showcase a new livery, but it was scrapped due to weight concerns

Remember when Red Bull decided not to paint the RB20 with the special Singapore and Austin liveries because of weight issues? While the Singapore design was eventually used on Hamda Al-Qubaisi’s car in the F1 Academy, the Austin livery had never been seen—until now.

In a photo shared by Thomas Maher, the special Austin livery can be spotted on a Red Bull car during the Galway Showrun!

Red Bull’s Official Statement

This was Red Bull’s official statement back in September when they decided not to proceed with the liveries: “Unfortunately, when we got to the testing stage of how some REBL CUSTMS designs might look, in real conditions, on the RB20, we found that the paint used to create these liveries added unexpected and unnecessary weight to the RB20’s bodywork.

As you can imagine, any additional weight compromises performance, and the Team continues to prioritize making this car as competitive as possible for the rest of the 2024 season. Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that the Team has decided not to run the REBL CUSTMS liveries on the RB20 at the Singapore and Austin Grands Prix.”
