Max Verstappen’s words after securing an incredible pole position in the Qatar Grand Prix qualifying.
The magic of a four-time world champion. Max Verstappen clinched pole position with an outstanding performance in the Qatar Grand Prix qualifying. After a rather unremarkable eighth place in the sprint race, behind Hulkenberg’s Haas, the Dutch driver stunned everyone by taking first place with a 55-millisecond advantage over George Russell.
The four-time world champion, intercepted by microphones, expressed his excitement and disbelief, almost as confirmed by his words: “I want to congratulate the team for giving me a car that feels more connected. With the car, we’re one, and we can push. We did a really good qualifying. We made some changes to the car, but we didn’t expect the performance swing to be so big. I hope it will be the same tomorrow in the race. It seemed more stable on the single lap, which is exactly what we needed. I’m very happy to be on pole; it’s been a while.”
Max then added: “It will be a physically long race, and I think the main challenge will be the tires. We need to manage them well. The front left is under a lot of stress, so we’ll have to handle it with particular care tomorrow. But I hope with the setup we have now, it will work a bit better. We’re all close, as we saw in the Sprint, and now it looks like we’re in the mix as well. Hopefully, we’ll be there tomorrow too.”
