Franco Colapinto, who has so far had an underwhelming second debut in F1, shared his thoughts as he returns from the two-week summer break.
His second chance hasn’t lived up to the first: this 2025 season has certainly been disappointing for Colapinto. Few results, several mistakes, and a number of incidents — Spa and Budapest could be key turning points in his career, as his position in Formula 1 might not be as secure as it once seemed.
Colapinto spoke during the press conference: “The break? Yes, it was useful, definitely,” Franco said about the pause. “We were able to reset, go back to the factory, and work with great focus on where we need to improve, continuing to collaborate with the engineers. The morale at the factory was good, so now we feel ready for Spa.”
When discussing performance, Franco analyzed the issues from previous races: “There have been several tracks where my weaknesses have shown,” he admitted. “But especially in race pace, we’ve actually been quite strong. We’re focusing on improving our low-fuel performance, in qualifying configuration. We still lack the ability to make the new tyres work properly in many situations.”
The most critical aspect seems to be his confidence in the car:“I’m working on finding that confidence, because overall I’m missing something in braking and in slow corners. But we’re improving: since Silverstone, we’ve started to show some steps forward. We need to keep progressing.”
Looking ahead to the Spa weekend, Franco acknowledged the challenges ahead:“I think we need to try and make the most out of every opportunity. It’s going to be a tricky weekend, with the Sprint and also because of the weather forecast. We need to try and maximize our car’s potential and take every chance that could come from the conditions as well.”
