Fernando Alonso might miss the Hungarian Grand Prix – here’s who could replace him
The weekend has started in the worst possible way for Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard will not take part in the first free practice session at the Hungaroring. The news was confirmed by Aston Martin, who announced that the two-time World Champion is suffering from a muscular back injury.

The team stated that Alonso’s condition will be reassessed in the coming hours to determine whether he can continue for the rest of the weekend. The exact nature and severity of the injury have not been disclosed.
In his place, behind the wheel of the AMR25, will be Felipe Drugovich, the team’s reserve driver. The Brazilian has already featured in a few sessions this season. For him, this is an important opportunity to gain track experience and provide valuable data to the team — especially on a circuit like the Hungaroring, where aerodynamic load and traction are crucial.
It is still unclear whether Alonso will be able to take part in FP2, or if his entire weekend is in serious jeopardy. The situation will be closely monitored by team doctors and the FIA. If he’s ruled out, Drugovich may make his Formula 1 race debut.
