Here is the MotoGP starting grid for the Austrian Grand Prix: Marco Bezzecchi will start from pole position, but a big name has been hit with a penalty!
It’s a fiery weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria: tomorrow at 2:00 PM the Sunday main race will get underway, with Marco Bezzecchi starting from P1.
Sprint Recap
The Austrian MotoGP Sprint delivered drama right from the start: Bagnaia suffered a disastrous launch, immediately slipping out of the top-10, before being forced to retire due to major issues with his rear tire. Up front, the Marquez brothers set the pace, with Alex leading early and Marc closely shadowing him. Bezzecchi, who had returned to pole after two years, couldn’t hold the position and gradually dropped to 4th place, off the podium.
The race was decided in the final laps, when Marc Marquez launched a decisive move on his brother Alex, sealing the victory with authority. Huge disappointment for Bagnaia, who lost all chances of scoring points due to his Ducati issues. A similar fate befell Raul Fernandez, forced to retire just minutes from the finish, while Morbidelli made a costly mistake in the closing laps. Meanwhile, rookie Pedro Acosta celebrated another podium finish.
MotoGP Austria: the Penalties
As anticipated, a top rider has been handed a penalty for the Austrian GP: Alex Marquez received a long lap penalty following his clash with Mir at Brno.
