MotoGP at Balaton: Qualifying recap

Qualifying for the Hungarian GP delivered great action and confirmed the excellent form of the Italian riders. On pole position will be Marc Marquez with a stunning 1’36.518, but behind him shines Italy: Marco Bezzecchi will start 2nd just 290 thousandths off, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio (+0.354) and a solid Enea Bastianini (+0.424). To complete the Italian celebration, Franco Morbidelli secured 5th, half a second from the top: four Italians in the top five, a front row and a half that promises fireworks in the race.

Tough qualifying instead for other contenders. Pedro Acosta, who crashed halfway through the session, limited the damage with the 7th fastest time, while Alex Marquez ended up 11th and, with the penalty picked up yesterday, will drop to 14th on the grid.

It was also a tough day for Pecco Bagnaia, eliminated already in Q1 and forced to a comeback race. The challenge is set: Marquez will try to escape, but the Italians are ready to fight for the podium in front of the Balaton Park crowd.

MotoGP penalties for Hungary

Two riders have been penalized: Alex Marquez and Jack Miller, due to impeding Pecco Bagnaia yesterday. Both will serve their penalties in Sunday’s main race, while in the Sprint they started from their regular grid slots.
