According to Auto Motor und Sport journalist Christoffer Linden, Max Verstappen has made a stunning proposal to his long-time rival Lewis Hamilton: to become the godfather of little Lily, the first daughter born from Max’s relationship with Kelly Piquet.
For the Verstappen-Piquet family, this would be a gesture of deep symbolic value. Even before Lily’s birth, Max had already developed a strong bond with Penelope, Kelly’s daughter from her previous relationship with former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat, who has often appeared smiling during Max’s live streams.
Rumors suggest that during the summer break, Hamilton visited the Verstappen-Piquet household to meet the newborn. The encounter, surprisingly warm considering their fierce 2021 rivalry, reportedly strengthened the relationship between the two champions and led to Max and Kelly’s unexpected request.
Despite the intense on-track battles, culminating in their legendary 2021 title fight, Verstappen and Hamilton have rebuilt mutual respect over the last 2–3 years. If confirmed, this news would mark yet another sign of maturity and personal esteem between the two drivers—something that goes far beyond the limits of the paddock.
