IndyCar star Colton Herta has signed with Cadillac: after Pérez and Bottas, here comes the team’s third major addition.
Cadillac continues to build its Formula 1 future: after confirming the race lineup of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez, the American team has now officially announced the signing of Colton Herta for 2026.
The U.S. driver, a current IndyCar sensation with 9 victories and 16 pole positions to his name, had already been linked to Cadillac in recent weeks, before the final choice fell on the Bottas-Pérez duo. Now, the 25-year-old Californian will still be part of the project, in a role that could serve as a springboard toward a future Formula 1 debut: he has been named the team’s test driver.
“This is a dream I’ve always chased,” said Herta. “My ambition remains to race in F1, and I see this step with Cadillac as a huge opportunity to prove my worth. For now, I’ll focus on giving everything I can to help the team grow and become competitive.”
Team principal Graeme Lowdon highlighted the significance of having an American driver in an American outfit: “Colton is a natural talent with experience, maturity, and speed. His presence carries enormous value, not just for Cadillac, but for U.S. motorsport as a whole.”
Herta’s previous F1 link
This isn’t Herta’s first involvement with Formula 1. Back in 2022, he tested the McLaren MCL35M at Portimão, impressing Woking’s engineers. His European career had also seen him battle strong rivals in junior formulas, including Lando Norris, his teammate in MSA Formula back in 2015.
