Albon and Red Bull could cross paths again: his name among 2026 candidates
Alexander Albon’s first spell at Red Bull did not end in the best way. Promoted to a race seat in late 2019 and confirmed for 2020, his seventh place in the championship pushed Helmut Marko to relegate him to a reserve role. Now, after his breakthrough with Williams, the Anglo-Thai driver’s name appears to be back on the radar of the Milton Keynes-based team.
Helmut Marko opens the door for Albon
According to Motorsport.com, Marko has included Albon among the potential candidates for 2026, with the idea of reuniting him with Max Verstappen after five years. Supporting his candidacy is also Chalerm Yoovidhya, the Thai partner and influential figure within Red Bull’s hierarchy.
The prospect, however, remains complicated. Albon would have to compete with internal rivals such as Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, and Arvid Lindblad, all of whom still lack certainty about their F1 futures. Additionally, for the current Williams driver, it would mean returning to an extremely high-pressure seat, without technical guarantees ahead of the 2026 regulation changes. The door remains open, but a comeback could materialize only under certain conditions.
