The Federation has decided to ban the cheating used by Mercedes and Red Bull to gain more power during the qualifying lap. The two teams, in fact, were able to exploit their full electric power until the end of the straight, only suffering an immediate reduction in horsepower and the resulting emergency shutdown for one minute during the cool-down lap or when returning to the pit lane. This detail was initially approved by the Federation, but it sparked discontent among the competition.

Over the past few weeks, some teams in particular, Ferrari, have begun an important dialogue with the FIA ​​with the aim of banning the use of this trick during qualifying. Thanks to the input of the Maranello team, the Federation has therefore decided that a change will be made in Miami. This is the statement sent to the teams: “While teams will still have the option to disable the MGU-K, the use of this feature for purposes other than legitimate ones will not be tolerated.”
