The MotoGP championship leader reveals: “Nothing related to the crash… I just wasn’t feeling great, but I’m satisfied.”
Despite ending his streak of five consecutive wins in Jerez, Marco Bezzecchi remains positive. With today’s second-place finish, the Italian extends his lead in the standings over teammate Jorge Martin to 11 points.
Bezzecchi’s words
Speaking to Sky Sport MotoGP, Bezzecchi said: “Am I satisfied? Yes. It was a tough weekend for us, but I’m happy. I gave everything I had to do my best, and Alex was hard to beat today. I’m very satisfied, and now we have an important test tomorrow, so we need to work well tonight, analyze everything and prepare a solid plan.”
“At the start I tried to stay close to the Marquez brothers because I knew they were fast. They pulled a gap on the first lap, then I came back and stayed there for a few laps. Then Alex made a move when I made a mistake at Turn 1. After that, I tried to pull away again from Diggia, who was catching up. In the end, I was even closing a bit on Alex, but he had more pace and managed the race better.”
“In the final laps I didn’t want to take too many risks. I pushed for the whole race, but in the last 6–7 laps I kept some margin. I wasn’t feeling great physically, so I had to dig deep. It wasn’t related to yesterday’s crash — I didn’t really hurt myself, just twisted my leg slightly in the gravel. Today, though, I had some stomach issues.”
“On track I had good feelings, that’s clear, but I didn’t feel 100%. Losing Saturday due to the weather didn’t help us fine-tune everything. Alex and his team did a better job adapting quickly. We focused too much on Friday, and then the weather held us back.”
“Still, I’m happy because it wasn’t an easy weekend and today was a good race. See you tomorrow for the tests,” Bezzecchi concluded.
