Alex Zanardi passed away this morning at the age of 59, the man who defied destiny itself, teaching the unique value of life.
The entire world mourns Alex Zanardi. The man who defied destiny and life itself has passed away at the age of 59, leaving an unfillable void, not only in motorsport. Calling him such is a rather reductive statement compared to an athlete and a giant who invented a new way of racing against destiny, against oneself, and against the storms that, every now and then, existence brings to our souls for no reason, no valid reason.
From track racing to the Olympics, through some ferocious mountains and hardships that often threatened his life, but he did not. A lover of unprejudiced existence, that tireless desire to contextualize (even if only for a second) the consequences of that terrible accident in the United States. From that moment on, despite everything, he learned to fly, proving stronger than any storm and adversity.
His love of life and athletics took him to the Paralympic Games in London and Rio, winning four gold medals, as well as eight world road championship titles. Alex fought and won, constantly suffering but always with that self-deprecating and unassuming smile, without relenting against the same fate that took so much from him, like the loss of his sister Cristina in 1979.
Alex Zanardi went beyond the human, redefining the concept of common being. He, who was a source of inspiration for thousands of young people, spent just one more minute listening and speaking, understanding that despite everything there is still hope, that you can fly even if fate has broken your legs but not your love for life. Here, Alex Zanardi was something beyond: the uncommon man who defied and conquered fate by loving life, until the very end.
