The Italian-Swiss driver beats title rival Pascal Wehrlein in the final.
Edoardo Mortara takes pole position for the first Berlin E-Prix! The Italian-Swiss driver was extremely quick from the early stages of qualifying, finishing the session with a time of 56.989, a track record at the German circuit.
Alongside him will be home favourite Pascal Wehrlein, who was defeated in the final duel by the Italian-Swiss driver and is also his closest rival in the standings.
In the race, which will start at 16:00 Italian time, there will therefore be an important battle in terms of the championship as well, with Edoardo Mortara aiming to close the gap to Wehrlein, which is now just 9 points.
Third position on the grid for the reigning world champion, Oliver Rowland, who was defeated in the duel with Pascal Wehrlein. Alongside him will start Dan Ticktum, almost four tenths slower than Edoardo Mortara.
Starting from fifth position will be Nick Cassidy, poleman of the previous Madrid E-Prix. The New Zealand driver had set a better first sector than Pascal Wehrlein, but the German driver managed to recover over the course of the lap to gain a margin of 75 thousandths, despite a slight brush with the wall. Alongside him will be the Porsche #51 of Nico Müller, beaten by a Dan Ticktum in scintillating form.
Seventh starting position for Zane Maloney, the best result of his Formula E career, ahead of the Andretti of Felipe Drugovich, who made a decisive lock-up in Turn 2. A good starting position for the Brazilian driver, still in search of his first points of the season.
Berlin E-Prix Qualifying 1: the group stage
In Group A, the fastest was Pascal Wehrlein, at the wheel of the pink Porsche, on the occasion of the home round for the German team. Behind him, Felipe Drugovich proved to be very quick once again, after the third place achieved in FP2 this morning: the Brazilian driver made his Formula E debut in Berlin last season, immediately managing to score his first points.
Completing the top 4 are Oliver Rowland and Nick Cassidy: in particular, the reigning World Champion managed, with a final push under the chequered flag, to move up into third place after a difficult session, knocking Taylor Barnard out of the knockout stage.
The elimination of the young British DS Penske driver is the first surprise of the weekend, considering the strong one-lap pace he had shown in free practice.
In Group B, meanwhile, the fastest was Dan Ticktum, who thus continues his excellent run of form after a strong race in Madrid, beaten by Pascal Wehrlein in the final corner for third place. The Cupra Kiro driver leads Edoardo Mortara, Zane Maloney, and the second Porsche of Nico Müller.
For the Barbadian driver in particular, this marks his first entry into the top 8 in his Formula E career, a sign of strong progress.
Fifth place surprisingly goes to the fastest in FP2, António Félix da Costa, ahead of Günther and Dennis.
Great misfortune for Lucas di Grassi, who has recently announced his retirement at the end of the season: the Brazilian driver, while on a very strong lap, lost control after contact with the wall, damaging the rear left suspension and thus compromising his qualifying session.
