Fred Vasseur commented on the two Ferraris’ qualifying session, with Leclerc in third place and Hamilton sixth.

Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished the qualifying session for the Miami Grand Prix in third and sixth place, respectively, with some regrets, especially from the Monegasque driver, about a front row start within reach. Tomorrow’s race promises to be a wet one, but in the meantime, it’s important to analyze what happened with the Maranello team suffering a significant engine deficit compared to Mercedes and McLaren.

Fred Vasseur, at the end of the session, spoke to Sky Sport F1, analyzing the incident with an eye on tomorrow’s race. Here’s what he said: “If we look at this morning and yesterday, Mercedes is faster today while McLaren was flying, while we’ve always been third. The important thing is to be consistent and, step by step, gain a better understanding of the situation. Up until now, we’ve been stronger off the start, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be stronger tomorrow. You can win when you start on the second row. To be honest, we’re always better in the race than in qualifying. I have the feeling we’re improving, but we still have a long way to go.”

Regarding the engine issue, he added: “The less horsepower? You’ll have to ask the FIA. It’s not just horsepower, but also power delivery. Mercedes also changed their strategy between yesterday and today. I shouldn’t have faith in the ADUO; I have to focus on development. Now there’s this opportunity; we have to wait for the FIA rankings and we’ll understand whether we can develop the engine or not.”
