Moments of concern during today’s race in Miami: Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly collide, and the Frenchman’s Alpine flips over.
Gasly’s race lasted just six laps, out of the 58 scheduled: the French driver hit the wall, bringing his Florida weekend to an abrupt end due to the crash.
The incident with Lawson: what happened
Pierre Gasly made a move on the Visa CashApp Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson. The New Zealander, however, braked late in an attempt to defend his position and hold off the Alpine.
A defensive move that turned into disaster: Lawson locked up under braking, while on the outside Gasly had to extend his braking zone, hoping to avoid contact.
That hope didn’t last: Lawson’s front right touched Gasly’s rear left, sending the Alpine flipping upside down before — fortunately — landing back in its normal position, albeit on top of the barriers.
VIDEO – THE DRAMATIC CRASH BETWEEN GASLY AND LAWSON!
The driver is unharmed, but it was a major scare for everyone watching. Both drivers were forced to retire from the race, and it is likely that Lawson will receive a penalty.
