Leclerc: damage on top of frustration?
The Ferrari driver, already involved in a difficult race that ended with a spin and light contact with the wall, is being investigated for repeatedly leaving the track and gaining an advantage. With a damaged SF-26, Leclerc allegedly cut several corners during the race, gaining positions irregularly according to the stewards. However, a 5-second penalty would not change his finishing position, as the gap to Hamilton is 9 seconds.
Leclerc is also being investigated for driving in unsafe conditions in the final laps of the race.
Russell also under investigation
Attention in Mercedes as well: George Russell is also under scrutiny. The British driver, who finished the race with a damaged front wing, is being investigated for moving under braking while defending against Leclerc — a maneuver prohibited by the regulations. This could potentially cost him his P4 finish.
