A nearly resigned Max Verstappen appeared in front of the cameras, with his Red Bull RB20 no longer instilling fear
The era of Max Verstappen’s unbeatable dominance seems to be coming to an end, barring any major surprises. Five races without victories (likely to become six tomorrow), a disappointing seventh place in qualifying, and a Red Bull that looks unrecognizable. No one expected such an outcome, but after today, even the drivers’ championship seems to be at serious risk.
This is how Max Verstappen spoke to Sky Sports: “The difficulties this weekend have been the same as last weekend, so nothing has really changed since Zandvoort. It’s been tough to find a good balance with the car: honestly, at one point in qualifying, things were looking better, but then at the start of Q3, everything started feeling very wrong.”
“I was slower in Q3 than in Q2, and the gap just became enormous, so we need to understand what went wrong in Q3. We have our issues, which we know, but in Q3, we completely lacked pace. I had a lot of understeer with both sets of tires, and we need to figure out why it suddenly happened.”
“Usually, when you don’t have a good balance, you end up destroying the tires in the race: we’ll find out tomorrow, but I don’t expect any surprises,” concluded a bitter Verstappen, who appeared almost dejected and resigned in the face of the struggles with his Red Bull RB20.
