An excellent Friday for the Spanish Ferrari driver, who finished the second free practice session in Mexico in first place.
Ferrari started the Mexican weekend the same way it ended the Texas one, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing in first and fourth positions during the second session, showcasing a car capable of impressing right from the start in race pace.
The SF-24 was indeed the only car to maintain consistency during the race pace simulation, with Leclerc setting impressive times consecutively. Sainz was on the same wavelength, finishing the afternoon session at the top during the Pirelli test for next season. This is an important boost of confidence for Ferrari ahead of FP3 and, especially, the qualifying session, which will take place at 11 PM Italian time.
Carlos Sainz’s words after FP2:
Sainz, fresh off a second-place finish in Austin, spoke to the press: “Overall, it was a positive day for me, as I was able to complete the agreed program and work on the balance and setup, especially in the first session. In the second session, we had to run with the C4 tires, which allowed us to gather useful data, particularly regarding race configuration. Tomorrow morning’s session will be very important for preparing for qualifying because there’s definitely room for improvement, even though today’s start was encouraging.”
