Lewis Hamilton’s Words

The two Mercedes drivers analyzed the events of Mexican Friday while speaking to the press. Here’s what Hamilton had to say: It was fantastic to see Kimi do a great job for the team during FP1. It was a pleasure to collaborate with him and support him before the session. The program he followed prepared us well for the afternoon. It’s not always easy to find your rhythm after missing the first practice session, but I felt good behind the wheel in FP2.

The seven-time world champion added, “During the tire test, we couldn’t make any changes to the car, and the red flag caused by George’s crash nearly compromised a significant part of our time on track. However, I think we gathered a lot of useful information that we will use tonight to improve the setup and prepare for the rest of the weekend.”

George Russell’s comments

It was a two-faced Friday for Russell, who reflected on his crash in FP2: “It was a heavy impact, and initially, I felt a bit winded. I’m fine, but unfortunately, the car isn’t. I’m not sure what happened. I approached the corner trying to maintain the line as I had in FP1. I don’t know if it was the curb or if the car bottomed out, but it started bouncing, and before I could react, I found myself against the wall.”

The Englishman added, “Now there’s a lot of work for the team, which will need to get the car back in shape overnight. It seems like there’s always something going wrong, and it’s frustrating because we were competitive in FP1, setting the best times. We lost valuable laps in FP2, so the third session will be crucial for us to try to get the car in the best possible condition for qualifying and the race on Sunday.”
