Audi is increasingly close to Gabriel Bortoleto for the upcoming season, with ongoing talks with McLaren regarding the Brazilian driver.
Formula 1 will return to the track next weekend, heading to Interlagos. Brazil, in addition to its historic circuit, could see a driver back in the Circus. This driver is Gabriel Bortoleto, a young talent from the McLaren academy, who has caught Audi‘s attention. In recent weeks, significant progress has been made between the parties.
The Brazilian, currently leading the Formula 2 championship, is a McLaren driver, but the English team is unable to offer him any opportunities at this time. With contracts in place for Norris and Piastri, Bortoleto’s chances of a future with McLaren are slim, making Audi a more than viable alternative for his entry into Formula 1.
In recent months, there have been discussions with various drivers, starting with Bottas. The current Sauber driver is waiting for a response regarding next season, but the silence surrounding this decision suggests a significant opening for Bortoleto. The Brazilian driver’s candidacy aligns perfectly with Audi’s plans, as they are set to officially enter in 2026 by taking over Sauber. However, 2025 could serve as a “learning year” to assess the South American driver’s capabilities. Binotto has been open about wanting to invest in the young talent, and in recent weeks, discussions among the driver’s entourage, McLaren, and Audi have resumed in an effort to find a solution.
According to industry insiders, a decision regarding Gabriel Bortoleto’s potential arrival at Audi or the retention of Bottas is expected during the break between the Brazilian Grand Prix and the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
