A Ferrari “Monegasque Style” at Yas Marina: Arthur Leclerc in FP1 at Abu Dhabi alongside his brother Charles
What promises to be one of the most significant weekends in Ferrari’s recent history—fighting McLaren for the Constructors’ Championship—will grab even more headlines on Friday. It has just been confirmed that Arthur Leclerc, brother of Charles, will drive for Ferrari in FP1 at Abu Dhabi. This means Ferrari will symbolically take on the colors of the Monegasque flag (white and red) during Friday morning, marking a historic moment: never before have two brothers simultaneously driven for the Maranello team.
Ferrari, like all teams, is required by regulations to dedicate one practice session to a young driver, and the team has chosen to fulfill this obligation during the final race of the 2024 season. This decision also serves as a clear signal for the future, as Arthur is set to become Ferrari’s third driver next year, joining Italian Antonio Giovinazzi in this role.
The last time two brothers participated in the same Formula 1 weekend dates back to the Brazilian GP of 2006, the season finale, with Michael Schumacher racing in his final Ferrari appearance and Ralf Schumacher driving for Toyota.
The FP1 session at the Abu Dhabi GP is shaping up to be even more meaningful and spectacular—an event not to be missed!
