Ferrari’s Pivotal 2025: Here’s the Date of Hamilton’s Debut

2025 promises to be a crucial year for Scuderia Ferrari, with an intense work plan and a radically different technical project compared to the previous season. Frederic Vasseur, the Cavallino’s Team Principal, had already hinted during the traditional Christmas lunch that the 2025 car will be 99% different from the SF-24.”

The new car is currently in production, and the drivers will soon play a central role in the development process, with simulator sessions and track testing. In fact, Hamilton’s first official step as a Ferrari driver will take place virtually in the simulator in just a few days.

Although no special program has been prepared specifically for Lewis Hamilton, the British driver will be actively involved in several testing sessions alongside his teammate Charles Leclerc to get accustomed to the Ferrari environment. According to AutoRacer, Hamilton’s first on-track appearance is scheduled for January 22nd at the Fiorano Circuit. However, Ferrari has also reserved January 21st and 23rd to allow for flexibility depending on weather conditions.

Lewis Hamilton’s first outing with Ferrari will see him driving the F1-75, the car that competed in the 2022 championship. Although the car is two seasons old, it will be specially adapted for the occasion and will feature Hamilton’s iconic number 44. However, before taking the wheel on track, Hamilton is scheduled for his first simulator session on January 20th, which will take place at Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello.

TPC Testing Regulations Change: Here’s What’s New

From 2025, Formula 1 will enforce new restrictions on TPC (Testing of Previous Cars), limiting teams to just 20 days of testing with a single car.

Another important restriction applies to active Formula 1 drivers: they will not be allowed to cover more than 1,000 kilometers across a maximum of four days using cars from the 2021, 2022, or 2023 seasons. The most significant update is the shift in the temporal reference for eligible cars. The regulations will now use the calendar year as a benchmark, allowing Ferrari to utilize the SF-23—last season’s car—for TPC testing.
