McLaren in Stealth Mode: Driver Suits and Woking’s 2025 Car Unveiled

We’re almost there. McLaren kicks off the 75th edition of Formula 1 by unveiling the livery of the MCL39 and the driver suits of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

In just under a week – Tuesday, February 18 – the new Formula 1 season will finally get underway, a special and significant edition marking the 75th anniversary of the championship. For the occasion, the FOM and the FIA have set up what promises to be a real show at the O2 Arena in London, where lucky fans who managed to secure tickets before they sold out will be able to attend. Ahead of the 2025 season, teams have been teasing content via their social media channels, offering sneak peeks of their liveries and suits to give fans a glimpse of what’s to come.

McLaren wasted no time, following up on a series of graphics featuring the same pattern shared on their social media channels and during their filming day at Silverstone. Today, they surprised everyone by unveiling their new car, the MCL39, manufactured in Woking, as well as the driver suits that Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will wear during the season.

After an extremely successful “Mission Impossible” by clinching the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, the British team, led by Italian Andrea Stella, is gearing up to replicate last year’s success in 2025.

Surrounded by an air of mystery worthy of the greatest spy movies, the Woking-based team has entered “stealth mode” for the new Formula 1 edition, with Lando Norris wearing a suit noticeably different from last year’s. The new suit features only a few papaya details – McLaren’s characteristic color – on an otherwise black suit still lacking sponsor logos. The special livery of the successor to the MCL38 alternates between papaya and black in a checkered pattern, while maintaining some elements of McLaren’s British identity. However, the official MCL39 livery will be revealed in London and will be seen on track starting with the pre-season tests in Bahrain from February 26-28.
