The German driver will make his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and will complete the line-up of the #4 Porsche.
Ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will take place during the week of June 11-15, Porsche has announced the line-up of its three crews competing in the Hypercar category. Surprisingly, however, completing the trio of drivers for the #4 car of the Porsche Penske Motorsport team will be the reigning Formula E world champion, Pascal Wehrlein.
The 30-year-old German driver will thus join another former Formula 1 driver, Felipe Nasr, and Nick Tandy, who are the regular drivers in the IMSA championship. For Pascal Wehrlein, it will be his absolute debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, earned thanks to his strong performance at the 24 Hours of Daytona, held at the end of January 2025, where he drove the Porsche 963 for the JDC Miller team.

The other two Porsche crews will be those also participating in the WEC championship, with the Porsche #5 entrusted to Julien Andlauer, Michael Christensen, and Mathieu Jaminet, while the trio for the Porsche #6 will consist of Matt Campbell, Kevin Estre, and Laurens Vanthoor.
Pascal Wehrlein’s words after Porsche’s announcement
For Pascal Wehrlein, the reigning Formula E world champion, it’s a dream come true:
“Porsche has such an iconic motorsport heritage; I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to this major challenge because, unlike in FE, I will have to share everything in the Porsche 963 that I would normally tailor specifically to myself: seating position, set-up, strategy and more.”
“I want to add major titles in other series to my FE world championship victory, but my primary goal is to do a strong job for the team and learn as much as possible”, concluded Pascal Wehrlein.
These words were followed by those of Porsche Motorsport boss, Thomas Laudenbach, as reported by Motorsport.com: “The Porsche driver roster is absolutely top-tier and incredibly deep. It only makes sense to leverage our strong personnel from the FE factory team for the third PPM entry at Le Mans.”
“Pascal Wehrlein has fully convinced us with his performance in testing and his participation in the Daytona 24 Hours. As the reigning FE world champion, he has earned his Le Mans debut at the wheel of a Porsche 963.”
