Jody Scheckter’s victory at the 1979 Monaco Grand Prix with the Ferrari 312 T4 is now celebrated with a special model: all the details
There are moments in Formula 1 that remain etched in the minds of fans forever. Moments of pure joy, especially when they happen on a historic stage like Monte Carlo—where every victory holds unparalleled prestige.

And today’s story is no different: we’re talking about Jody Scheckter’s triumph in Monaco in 1979. A win secured from pole position, the last one the South African would claim in his Formula 1 career. To commemorate the occasion, Burago has released a special model dedicated to the Ferrari’s success in the Principality, achieved through a masterful defense against Regazzoni.
A car nicknamed “La Pantofola” (The Slipper)… but that’s another story.
1979 Monaco Grand Prix: The Race
Jody Scheckter started the 1979 Monaco GP from pole position, followed by Niki Lauda and Gilles Villeneuve. Villeneuve quickly reclaimed second place, while Lauda held up the pack, blocking the faster Ligier cars. Didier Pironi made several aggressive moves, first causing a puncture for Laffite and later spinning Depailler. On lap 22, contact between Depailler and Lauda led to both drivers retiring, allowing Alan Jones to move up to third.

The race saw numerous retirements due to mechanical issues, including Jarier and Jones, who crashed into the guardrail on lap 44. Villeneuve retired on lap 54 due to a transmission failure, leaving Regazzoni in second place, followed by Reutemann. In the final laps, Piquet and Depailler also dropped out due to technical failures, allowing Scheckter to maintain his lead and claim his ninth career victory. Regazzoni returned to the podium after nearly three years, with Reutemann completing the top three ahead of Watson, Depailler, and Mass—only six cars finished the race.
It was a true “sporting massacre.” Despite the chaos, Scheckter’s heroic defense against Clay Regazzoni was so celebrated that it has now been immortalized in a must-have collectible for enthusiasts.
