Mercedes to Bring New Updates Between Imola and Barcelona to Improve Tire Management
It has been a very solid start to the season for Mercedes, which seems to have largely found the right balance—ironically, in the final year of the current technical regulations. However, the future also looks promising for the German team, as early reports suggest they may have an edge over rivals in developing the power unit for the 2026 season.
So far in 2025, Mercedes has secured four podium finishes (all by George Russell) and a Sprint pole position by Antonelli, showcasing a car with significant potential, though still struggling with tire management. The race in Jeddah highlighted this issue perfectly, as Russell faded in the closing laps, surrendering the podium to Leclerc and fourth place to Norris.
To resolve this problem, Mercedes is working on solutions, with a series of updates scheduled between the Imola and Barcelona races aimed at improving tire management. James Allison, Mercedes’ Technical Director, commented on the upcoming changes: “We hope the updates we’re bringing in the next two or three races will shift things a bit in our favor.” He added: “We’ll continue to work on tire temperatures during the race, which should also help with development.”
