Lawrence Stroll’s team is ready to go to great lengths to secure the genius of Adrian Newey: a colossal $100 million offer! And Ferrari is not out of the picture…
It seemed that the possibility of seeing Adrian Newey at Ferrari had stalled: after rumors that circulated throughout the first part of 2024, the Maranello team now seems to have shifted focus to new figures. The reasons behind this decision? Newey reportedly requested to bring along 20 trusted engineers to Ferrari, thus creating his own elite team within the Scuderia. Additionally, the British engineer’s financial demands far exceeded the 10 million per year offered.
And here we are, talking about financial demands: the only team capable of meeting this incredible figure seems to be Aston Martin, with Lawrence Stroll willing to go to great lengths to see the AMR26 (and its subsequent models) designed and developed by someone considered the greatest engineer in Formula 1 history.
These great lengths are quantified in a contract worth $100 million net over 4 years: a colossal contract that would make him the highest-paid engineer in Formula 1, provided the 65-year-old from Stratford can deliver the much-dreamed-of and desired world title to the renowned British marque.
But Ferrari Is Not Entirely Out
There is too much negativity surrounding recent news about Ferrari: as reported by F1-Insider, “Aston Martin is currently the favorite to hire the 65-year-old engineer, a world champion with Red Bull, but Ferrari is not entirely out of the running, despite negative reports from some Italian media.”
What also distances Newey from Ferrari is the differing mentality of the two teams: at Maranello, Ferrari reigns supreme and no one can overshadow the Scuderia, whereas at Silverstone, Newey would be seen as the star, besides being much closer to his home.
