Major shake-up for Lawrence Stroll’s team: Mike Krack replaced by Andy Cowell as Aston Martin’s new team principal
Big news from Aston Martin! Following days of speculation about potential changes at Silverstone, Mike Krack has stepped down from his role as team principal, with Andy Cowell taking over. The former CEO of AMG High-Performance Powertrains and a familiar face from Mercedes will now officially lead the Aston Martin team. But that’s not all—Cowell, who has strong ties with Adrian Newey, Aston Martin’s major acquisition last season, will also take on the role of the team’s new CEO.
Mike Krack, who had served as team principal since 2022 following Otmar Szafnauer’s departure (Szafnauer later resigned from Alpine in early 2024), will hand over his position to Cowell but will stay on as CTO (Chief Trackside Officer), remaining an integral part of the British team. Cowell, a former Mercedes executive who worked closely with Toto Wolff, joined Aston Martin to oversee the development of the 2025 and 2026 cars, with a particular focus on wind tunnel work.
Here are Cowell’s first remarks:
“Over the past three months, I’ve dedicated my time to understanding and evaluating our performance, and I’ve been deeply impressed by the dedication, commitment, and hard work of this team. With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition in 2026 to a full works team in collaboration with our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we’re on a journey to becoming a Championship-winning team. These organizational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plans we’ve set in motion, and I’m incredibly excited about the future.”
The experience and expertise of Andy Cowell, combined with Newey’s masterful brilliance, could be the perfect formula for Aston Martin’s much-anticipated success in 2026. Will they achieve it?
