Mercedes and McLaren conducted a Pirelli test at the German Nürburgring, leaving Russell and Piastri satisfied.

Today and yesterday, the Nürburgring circuit hosted a Pirelli test (for tires to be used in 2027), with Mercedes and McLaren on track. Formula 1 has not been held in Germany since 2020, and the opportunity afforded by the long April break allowed the drivers of both teams to test on one of the most iconic tracks in the world. Comments from George Russell and Oscar Piastri were particularly positive, expressing their support for a possible return of Germany to the F1 calendar.

These are the words of the two drivers, starting with Mercedes number 63: “I really enjoyed driving this morning. I love the Nürburgring I also did a few laps on the Nordschleife, which I really like. It’s a traditional, old-school circuit. Yes, I’d love to race here again one day. And obviously, we don’t have any races in Germany at the moment, and with Mercedes, it would probably be better to have one on the calendar.”

Piastri also shared the same sentiment: “Of course, I wouldn’t mind. It’s not my absolute favorite circuit, but it’s a really special place because of its uniqueness. There are a lot of elevation changes, and obviously the history of this place is fantastic too. Plus, it’s a very old-school circuit, which we drivers always appreciate. Even though the layout varies from circuit to circuit, the old-school nature of the kerbs and run-off areas is always more rewarding when you get the racing line right. So, it would be nice, but we’ll see.”
