A dramatic weekend in the world of motorsport: one fatality at Rally Mina Clavero.
It has unfortunately been one of the most difficult weekends in recent years for international motorsport. Following the tragic death of Juha Miettinen at the Nürburgring, another fatal accident has struck the racing world — this time during a South American rally event.
During Round 2 of the FIA CODASUR Rally Championship at Rally Mina Clavero, a serious accident involved spectators standing near the roadside. According to initial reports, also supported by videos circulating on social media, a car lost control and entered an area where several fans were located.
The images, quickly shared online, immediately showed the severity of the situation, with emergency services responding promptly. Tragically, one spectator lost their life, while two others were injured.
The FIA Official Statement
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile released an official statement expressing condolences for the incident:
“The FIA is deeply saddened by the tragic accident that occurred during Round 2 of the FIA CODASUR Rally Championship at the Rally Sudamericano Mina Clavero, in which one spectator lost their life and two others were injured. We extend our sincere condolences and sympathy to the family and loved ones of the deceased, and our thoughts remain with the injured and all those affected. We thank the emergency services and medical teams for their rapid response.”
The FIA also confirmed full support for the event organizers and local authorities to clarify the circumstances and determine the causes of the accident.
Two Tragedies in Just a Few Days
The incident comes only hours after the tragedy at the Nürburgring, where driver Juha Miettinen lost his life in a crash involving seven cars during qualifying for the 24-hour race.
And while safety has made enormous progress in recent years, this weekend once again reminds everyone of a fundamental truth: Motorsport is dangerous. Always.
