In a home testing session, Red Bull has tested a “copied” version of the Macarena wing brought by Ferrari during the Bahrain tests.
The renamed “Macarena wing” by Ferrari has become one of the most discussed aerodynamic solutions in the Formula 1 paddock, this year and beyond. The Maranello team stunned everyone with a solution as bold as it is revolutionary, but it certainly did not go unnoticed: Max Verstappen’s team immediately got to work to bring a solution that appears to be very similar.
Just today, Ferrari seems to have approved the new version of the rotating wing in the Monza tests. The next appearance of the element studied by the Cavallino Rampante engineers will also be on track at the Miami GP, the next racing weekend.
Red Bull is launching a 2.0 version of the RB22, a car that is not performing in the best way. The new wing, in fact, is not the only update brought to the track (and tested for the first time in view of the Miami GP) by the Milton Keynes team, but it is the latest in an important series that aims to bring Max Verstappen and the entire team back to the peak reached not many seasons ago.
The Macarena wing designed by the Milton Keynes engineers proposes innovative philosophies: the central pylon is preserved, from which the rotation activation starts. The solution could bring even a 10 km/h advantage, but, at least in Ferrari’s case, it still presents some critical issues.
