What happened: the incident

Marquez crashed at the final corner on lap 7, in mixed dry-wet conditions. However, his GP26 was not damaged — and that’s where the #93’s brilliant move came in.

The Spaniard cut across the grass and part of the entry lane to enter the pit lane, switching bikes and mounting rain tyres. This proved decisive, as pitting early allowed him to fully exploit the changing weather window.

The stewards’ decision

No official investigation was launched regarding the shortcut into the pit lane, although some teams immediately lodged complaints, arguing that the pit entry should have been fully respected.

However, the stewards responded clearly: “Marquez entered the pit lane in safe conditions, without putting other riders at risk.” No penalty was given, and the nine-time world champion’s victory stands confirmed.
