Ferrari brings a new front wing to Miami: Will It be enough to close the gap to Mercedes?

The work carried out in Maranello has been substantial, leading to the development of a new front wing, which already went viral before media day and the car display. The image of the new specification quickly spread through the paddock, raising questions about its real impact: will it be enough to shift the balance?

The development effort over the past month has been crucial in introducing targeted updates aimed at improving both stability and performance of the SF-26. The package includes, in addition to the new front wing, also a revised floor, a rear FTM modification, a new diffuser, and the halo-wings 2.0.

The front wing is currently the most visible component and the easiest to analyze in detail. Roberto Chinchero had access to the Miami pit lane, managing to capture close-up shots of the new specification. The development work has been particularly in-depth, and according to simulations carried out in Maranello between wind tunnel and CFD, it could deliver a significant step forward.

The main revision concerns an increase in the outwash effect. Comparing images with the version used at the Japanese Grand Prix, it is clear that the most significant change involves the footplate: its geometry has been flattened compared to the 1.0 specification to reduce drag, a crucial factor on a circuit like Miami.

In addition, a flow diverter has been introduced, further enhancing the outwash effect. This improved front-end airflow management also allows the floor to operate more efficiently, unlocking greater overall performance potential. The Miami weekend therefore becomes extremely interesting from a technical standpoint, as it will reveal which team has made the most of this enforced break.
