Yesterday, a meeting was held between the drivers and the Federation to discuss what to do in the event of a storm.
Rain could dramatically disrupt the regular running of the Miami Grand Prix, the fourth round of the Formula 1 world championship. Weather forecasts predict fairly normal conditions today and Saturday, while on Sunday, coinciding with the start of the race, thunderstorms and lightning could dominate, forcing the Federation to take significant measures.
Yesterday, as anticipated by Sergio Perez at the press conference, an important meeting was held between the FIA and the drivers to discuss the various countermeasures to be adopted in the event of a thunderstorm scenario, combined with the phenomenon of lightning, which could significantly compromise the race. The FIA has prepared a contingency plan, which also includes a possible advance on the race’s start time, similar to what happened in Brazil in 2024.
The FIA also released a statement emphasizing its ongoing monitoring of the situation: “We are closely monitoring the weather forecast for this weekend. Having already faced a similar situation last year in Miami, with the risk of thunderstorms, we have prepared a contingency plan that we will activate, if necessary, to minimize disruption to the on-track schedule.”
