The FIA, Formula 1 and the promoter have officially confirmed a schedule change to avoid the thunderstorms expected in the afternoon.
It is now official: the Miami Grand Prix will start at 13:00 local time, three hours earlier than the original schedule, which was set for 16:00. The decision was taken jointly by the FIA, Formula 1 and the local promoter after days of discussions linked to increasingly worrying weather forecasts.
As previously anticipated, and as confirmed by data from our GPKingdom app, the most intense thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon, close to the original start time.
The goal, according to the official statement, is to secure the widest possible window to complete the race in acceptable conditions, ensuring the safety of drivers, fans, teams and track personnel. A schedule change that will now require adjustments to other support events (such as Formula 2), but one deemed inevitable given Florida’s tropical climate and the lightning risks that could have led to a suspension or cancellation of the event.
Meanwhile, the grid is already set: Andrea Kimi Antonelli will start from pole position, with Max Verstappen alongside him on the front row. The race will now take place at 13:00 local time in what is still expected to be a must-watch Grand Prix.
