One of the proposed solutions involves changing the amount of recoverable energy during a qualifying lap, with different parameters depending on the circuit. The definitive solution to eliminate these power losses—considered frustrating by both drivers and fans—could therefore be the return to the 60/40 ICE-electric split. According to reports from The Race, only two teams are genuinely enthusiastic about the proposal: Red Bull Racing and Mercedes.
Despite it already being widely known that the Ford and Mercedes power units are currently the strongest on the grid, both manufacturers reportedly believe they could maintain a technical advantage even under the revised regulations. Ferrari, however, has emerged as the primary political opponent to the two British-based teams.
The reasons why several manufacturers oppose the proposal are mainly twofold. The first concerns costs: another major regulatory change would require fresh development programs, revisions to projects already underway, and therefore additional investment.
