Celestino gives it his all on the Italian track, but Gonzalez is untouchable: the Spanish rider kicks off the weekend in the best possible way.
Just a 15-minute break and it’s already time to clear the track for the first free practice session of Moto2. However, this session seems like a mirror image of that of the Moto3 class: the championship leader—in this case, Gonzalez—dominates for most of the session.
Behind him is Jake Dixon (2nd), who returns to competitive lap times after a series of tough races. Rounding out the top 3 is Celestino Vietti: the Italian rider takes full advantage of his home weekend and deep knowledge of the circuit to unlock all the potential that has remained hidden this year.
A strong performance from Oncu (4th), who continues his positive streak after his victory in Aragon. The weekend is also off to a good start for the two rookies from the Aspar Team, Alonso (5th) and Holgado (9th): if they can avoid getting in each other’s way in the race for a third time, they could achieve some important results too.
The disappointment of this FP1 session is Aron Canet (12th): unfortunately, the Spanish rider’s team isn’t at full strength this weekend, but the battle with Gonzalez is still on; therefore, it’s crucial to perform well already in this afternoon’s Practice session.
