After Leclerc and Russell, Verstappen also summoned by the FIA for clarifications over two race incidents in Miami
It’s a heated post-race scene at the Miami Grand Prix, with investigations continuing to pile up after the chequered flag. Following the cases involving Charles Leclerc and George Russell, Max Verstappen has also come back under the spotlight of race control. The Red Bull driver will have to answer to the stewards for two separate incidents: one occurring under the Safety Car period in the early stages of the race, and another related to his late-race contact with Russell.
The race incidents
The first incident concerns a potential infringement during the early phase of the race. Verstappen was among the few drivers to pit for fresh tyres after the Safety Car was deployed, initially triggered by Isack Hadjar’s crash and subsequently by the contact between Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly.
However, on his way out of the pit lane, the Dutch driver is alleged to have crossed the white line, prompting the stewards to place the matter under detailed post-race review.
As if that were not enough, a second investigation has been opened involving both Verstappen and George Russell. The pair made contact at Turn 1 in the closing stages of the race, with the Mercedes driven by the British driver sustaining damage to its front wing. This incident will also be reviewed by the stewards after the race in order to determine any potential responsibility.
